Opera adds voice to Browser
Posted on | December 24, 2004 |
The latest release of the Opera web browser adds voice commands and text2speech using IBM’s Embedded ViaVoice technology. This is significant because Opera is a leading maker of browsers for mobile devices; and I believe that voice recognition can neutralize the input handicap of mobiles.
The new, as-yet-unnamed software adds stronger support for RSS (Really Simple Syndication)–a technology widely used for automatic access to blogs and other material–and technology that allows users to navigate through voice commands and have Web pages read to them.
