SK Telecom seeking Indian partner

Category: News | No Comments | Posted on July 5, 2005

South Korea’s largest mobile operator SK Telecom is planning to enter the Indian mobile market. There are reports that it may pick a 33% stake in Tata Teleservices.

SK Telecom operates in one of the most advanced mobile markets in the world. Its entry could liven up the Indian mobile market. Good for the Tata’s too, considering that their telecom foray has not made any great strides so far. Having a stakeholder like SK Telecom would definitely have a positive affect on them.

Ms. Kim said the Indian market has great potential because only 55 million Indians out of the 1.1 billion population are using cell phones.
