After years at Nokia, Mr Sanjeev Sharma has stepped down as the Managing Director of Nokia India after he was asked to move to Singapore as regional head of marketing. D Shivakumar will be taking over as Nokia India V-P and country GM.
“I had taken a decision that I would like to remain in India and contribute to the country’s growth story. India’s economy is hot and it is here where the action is. It doesn’t make much sense professionally for me to move out of the country at this point of time,” Mr Sharma told Business Line.
ToI adds that senior executives were increasingly endorsing the view that India offered better growth prospects than regional postings.
“It is time that big companies begin to understand India’s importance and start treating it as a hub by creating bigger, regional responsibilities for executives based out of here,”said an industry official, who did not want to identified.
“Lot of product innovations are happening here and it doesn’t make sense for people with understanding of the Indian market to move out and lose touch,”he added.
