Tata and ZTE ink 3G deal
Category: 3G | 1 Comment | Posted on June 9, 2006
Tata Indicom is entering into an agreement with ZTE, under which the Chinese telecom major would build a countrywide CDMA 2000 network for Tata Indicom in the next three years.
Although the licencing conditions and spectrum allotment for 3G are not yet clear, operators are gearing for launch of 3G services by next year.
CDMA 2000 enables a service provider to offer 3G services such as multimedia and other IP-based services.
With contract sales in excess of $4 billion, ZTE is China’s largest listed telecommunication equipment maker.
Incidentally, the government has put on hold ZTE’s plans to enter wholesale trading in telecom equipment, following objections from intelligence agencies.

the service is good! but the hanset provided, i.e. ZTE flap phone has a lot to improve. it has a very poor battery backup, which even gets damaged within months, has a very low sms storage capacity and takes a lot of ti,e to load the phonebook once it is freshly switched on. Rest is fine with the product
