Commercial GSM celebrates 15th anniversary

It is 15 years on July 1, since the world’s first commercial GSM call was made.

The network was delivered by Ericsson and operated by Mannesmann in Germany. Radiolinja in Finland made the first GSM call four years earlier in 1992.

With more than 2 billion users, GSM has revolutionized the way the world communicates. Around 82% of the world’s mobile users are on GSM. Approximately every third person on the globe has a GSM phone.
