Report: Future of Mobile VAS in India

Posted on | December 13, 2007 |

A research report “Future of Mobile Value Added services in India” done by Stanford University graduate student Mohit Gundecha and Prof. Tom Kosnik in association with BDA is available for free download. Its a must download for anyone interested in the Indian Mobile VAS space.

Was good to interact with Mohit and contribute my bits towards the making of this report; and he is kind enough to mention my name in it.

The report gives a clear idea of the current and future of the mobile VAS market, including analysis of the dominant players in every part of the value chain. Along with identifying the key challenges currently existing in the market and how these challenges will evolve in the future or be overcome, the report also discusses the future wave of product and service offerings and the industry sentiment around each.

    Hi Veer,

Your blog is awesome and very focussed.

I wanted to bring to your notice that in the Companies list you have missed Lifetree Convergence Ltd., Lifetree is among the pioneers of the Indian VAS dating back to 2001 when it conceptualized and implemented 8888 SMS service for Indiatimes.
It has done many prestigious implementations including the platform which powers RWorld Service of Reliance launched in 2002.
Apart from this it is powering many shortcodes in and outside India, some of them are: 56388 for NDTV, 54545 for Sify, 57272 for DanikJagran, 56464 for CellCast, 56886 for it’s own ASP services.

You can find more information about it on http://www.lifetreeindia.com/product_cont_mngmt.html

Thanks for providing & maintaining such informative blog.

    Hiii

I am a management student and currently analysing this sector as part of my academics.
The report is comprehensive and etremely structured.
However I had a few doubts on reading this report.
On Pg 92 of the report there is a breakup of major VAS services and its forecast for yr 2010.

Can anyone tell me wht products are covered under
    1) Voice,
    2) DAta
    3) Others

Also new products like ADRBT and SNC, UGC will fall in which category?
